The process is always the short cut

Hey there People!

Yesterday I had a former client reach out to me.

Apparently I'd been on her mind for a while.

She was reaching out to give me an update on her progress.

She'd jumped from N150k a month to N3.5m a month.

"Uncle Vic, I can't believe I am saying this. All the time I was killing myself I could have been streesless."

And yup...

The typos are hers not mine.

Whilst we are at it...

If you're drop dead gorgeous and working with me...

I take God beg you...

Stop calling me Unku Vic in public...

Feel free to call me that in private...

But in public...

Biko epp my ministry...

I really not that old...sheeesh!

Anyways...

Back to my story.

Apparently she'd finally been able to make a shift I'd always talked to her about but that she consistently fought me over.

I'm talking about going from being goal focused to being process focused.

Let me explain.

Imagine that we both want to start a business.

You want to grow the biggest, most profitable business ever.

AKA...you're all about the outcome.

You're goal focused.

I, on the other hand, am not interested in that.

All I want is to be really great at building business.

AKA...I'm all about the process.

Here's what'll most likely happen over time.

At the beginning we will both do all the basics.

But...

That's where we go our separate ways.

You will not be happy until you have the biggest most profitable business ever or what ever you goal is.

I, on the other hand, am excited everyday to get the opportunitiy to get better at my business building skills.

Because time and randomness ( AKA gbasgbos) are constants in life.

Every time things don't go as well as you expect...

You will literally lose it.

Reality is not meeting expectations and you're so focused on how far away the finish line is...

Me?

#evillaugh

Let's just say I'm having the time of my life because each challenge is an opportunity to get better.

At this point...

We might have similar businesses...

But I have a distinct and significant advantage...

I'm getting better and improving my process while you're walking in circles stressed that you don't have most successful business.

I am finding enjoyment and falling in love in the process while you sit wallowing in stress and anxiety, and thinking about quitting the business.

You're in love with an outcome, stressing over how far away the finish line is.

And because you're so focused on the outcome, you are not improving the process that would actually get you there.

You're more likely to quit...

You're less likely to improve your business process because you're not focused on it at all.

In other words, even though you are more focused on the goal, I have a higher probability of having a successful, profitable business

Even in the unlikely case that you push through and we both have successful, profitable businesses...

You've tortured yourself to get there and I've had a lot of fun.

What felt like forever to you,,,,

Seems to have happened so quickly to me.

The same end result, an entirely different impact on our lives.

It won't be long until you start complaining that I have a better business and now seem to be able to grow them effortlessly.

Then, you'll find a new goal and repeat this whole thing again. and again. and again.

Or...

Like the former client I talked about in the beginning...

You can borrow some sense...

You can learn to fall in love with the process...

Focus on getting getting better every day instead of wishing you were already good.

Focus on the process, not the goal.

The finish line will come to you.

Till tomorrow...

Get out of your own way.
