“Growth for growth sake is a trap”
— CTM
Hey there,
So sorry I didn't get round to sending yesterday's newsletter - it couldn't be helped.
But...
I am here today and I am grateful for your attention.
A few days back I was talking revenue maths with a few clients and the subject of 1000 true fans came up.
The gentleman who brought it up wanted to know what was the fastest way to get to 1000 true fans.
Given that I advocate a total ecosystem of:
150 for your circle of clients
1500 for your tribe of customers
15000 for your audience of seekers
I understood where the question was coming from and the assumptions that were fueling the question.
Now to give you some context, this gentle man currently has 25 clients paying $2000 a month...
45 customers paying $1000 a year for his monthly workshop series.
That's a total of about $650k a year.
Add to that about 10 speaking gigs a year at $5000 and he's been maintaining a blue belt practice for about a year now.
That's the funny thing about human nature: The insatiable quest for more.
Now don't get me wrong - there's nothing wrong with wanting to reach your fullest potential.
But growth for growth sake is a trap far too many of us fall into with good intentions.
The purpose of growth as far as The Way of the Tribemaster is concerned is not more - it's to bring us closer to what's important.
Anyways...
Back to my gist.
So I ask him why he wants to get to 1000 customers as fast as possible.
And he responds: To secure my families future. 1000 customers would give me a base of a million dollars a year.
So I asked and how would an extra million dollars as a base secure your family?
And he didn't have an answer.
Truth be told he simply liked the idea of having 1000 customers paying $1000.
He hadn't even factored in the cost of having 1000 customers and the impact it would have on his currently lifestyle.
And many of us are just like that.
That while one of our memes at Tribemasters is:
Move fast slowly
Remember it's:
A Circle of Clients first, then a Tribe of Customers before an Audience of Seekers.
Before you go nuts with social media, put all your effort into getting a client first.
Take care of that one and then get two...
Then three.
If your price point is $3000 then all you need is 4 to get to $12k.
Achieve that first before posturing on social media.
Then go from that to making it consistent on a monthly basis.
Once that is achieved...
Then you can go to work on building your customer base to have a waiting list of quality client prospects and leveraging social media consistently to build an audience of seekers.
Next month I'll be kickstarting registrations for Start The Year Right, our annual program for laying the foundation for our next level.
This year's edition is kinda special given it's coming right after the formal launch of The International Society of Tribemasters.
I was supposed to have sent you details yesterday but unfortunately life got in the way.
I'll do that tomorrow.
Till then...
Get out of your own way

PS: On the 29th of September, I'll be formally launching The International Society of Tribemasters. If you're interested in taking your influence to the next level - building a wildly successful and highly profitable practice that brings in $50k to $100k a month working 3 days a week with 2 support staff, let's talk.
