Now here's a rather morbid question to ask on the first day of the month of love...

If you died right now...

Would you be happy with things you've said and done to the people you claim to care about in the last 30days?

Next question...

If you knew for sure that the people you currently care about would die by the end of today...

How would you treat them?

What would no longer matter if you knew they'd die by the end of today?

Think about that because guess what?

There are no guarantees that you or them will live past today.

And yet we act like we have all the time in the world...

And consistently do our very best to seize every opportunity to be miserable and make other people's lives miserable as well.

Welcome to Tales From The Dark Side Of Life.

It's one of my favorite story archetypes, mainly because it's forces people to confront their humanity and strive to be better versions of ourself.

You use it to remind your people of the values that sit at the center of your methodology...

You use it to inspire and install character ideas...

It's about sharing experiences that people generally don't want to talk about and using it as a basis for a learning opportunity...

I prefer to use it when world building...

Getting my people to understand what I'm about and what I'm doing after they've made the decision to be a part of my tribe.

But when used in combination with the other story archetypes...

Especially the quest...

It's incredibly powerful in enrolling people into a life long commitment.

At it's core Tales From The Dark Side is about an experience that transports you to a perspective of life that you're not immediately familiar with..

Could be an honest man confronted with the opportunity to steal when he needs money to pay for his child's hospital bills...

Could be a badly treated and neglected spouse faced with the opportunity to cheat...

Or an expert who's been struggling suddenly faced with the opportunity to lie about their results in order boost sales...

These are all Tales From The Dark Side and non of us are immune to it...

Now here's the thing...

It's not what you did that matters when you are telling this story...

It's the consequences or results of what you chose to do...

And what you learned from it all that counts.

To be honest...

It's often what you learned from making the wrong decisions that make this so powerful to your people.

Understand though, that it's being used on you daily and learn to recognize what's happening when it's happening.
