Hello Everyone.
This is Edward Williams.
I'll be taking over from Victor for today.
I teach a program called Ethical Cult Building which is based on all I have learned from Victor about engineering trust at very deep levels.
Here are some of the key principles
in building an ethical cult.
1. An ethical cult is HARD to join, but easy to leave.
Compare that to what the brilliant author and speaker Jamie Wheal labels a “culty cult”...
Which in my observation is very EASY to join, but very hard to leave.
2. You must be sensitive to the fact that you yourself have been programmed, and shed any useless or hindering beliefs as quickly as you become aware of them.
Biggest mind-programs include participation in contracts that you haven’t consciously authorized (especially those involving your money).
Beliefs about SciEnCe that are dogmatic and in many ways their own religion.
And intimate relationship structures that despite overwhelming evidence that there is room for improvement, continue to be championed as superior.
3. Be weird enough that you’re interesting, but not so weird that you’re a threat.
Self deprecating humor goes a long way.
As does sharing your personal likes and dislikes so that your audience / fan base / customers get a sense of your tastes.
For example, I routinely poked fun at the absurdity of mask mandates and made no secret of my responses to people who presumed the authority to make me wear one.
The “blowhole” post comes to mind 🐬.
4. You must have legitimate “secret knowledge” obtained through your uncommon life experience that will enrich the lives of those who trust you.
Your real life scars, embarrassing failures, and hard earned stories are far more valuable than any academic trophies or corporate achievements.
Gentle Warning:
This material really isn’t for everyone.
Not a get rich quick approach or scale to soulless millions kind of thing.
But for experienced marketers with a visible face and name...
Who see the writing on the wall and want to double down on growing their Persona-Based Movement (better than “personal branding” by a mile)…
For the marketer who wants to be ready and weather the storms of the all-time trust lows that are already hurting a lot of people’s sales…
Ethical cult building is the only path to growth that makes any sense.
