I got my big break in speaking after working as the National Head of Benefits Payment for Everygreen Pensions (Now called Oak Pensions)...

Whilst there....

I learned that it was pretty easy to just walking into an establishment...

Introduce yourself and if you had something to say that was relevant...

You could get 30mins to an hour with the entire staff and still sell products at the end..

Once I implemented that for powerideas...

I went from barely making N50,000 a month selling subscriptions to my monthly audio CDs...

To clearing N30million ($100k back then) that same year.

That experience completely changed the way I view professional speaking forever.

Fast forward to 2012...

I'd relocated to Lagos...

Dragging my wife...

fighting..

scratching....

kissing...(stop right there!!!!)

I spent the next few years...

Doing exactly the same thing...#sideeye

Booking myself out to speak for 20mins...

And selling my CDs at the end of the talk...

Life was good.

Speaking has been one of my three most powerful marketing and sales weapons so far.

The other two are...

Publishing..

and...

PR...

I have to stress here that the goal with these 3 is always:

First...

Build an audience...

Second...

Build a tribe of customers from your audience

Finally...

Convert your customers to clients...

And yes...

As long as you're my captive audience...

Imma keep repeating that till you're sick of reading and hearing it...

Here's the thing that most people never get round to figuring out about the speaking game...

10% about speaking...

Not enough people consider learning what it takes to know how to get people to take action on your thoughts and ideas from a stage..

Anyways...

Fast forward to 2017...

And I'm going live on HPEN...

When I suddenly realize...

That the very same things I was doing to generate sales offline...

Could very easily be transferred online via...

Facebook lives...

Webinars...

Instalive...

Zoom meetings...

Etc...

I literally went nuts...

Booking myself to multiple groups on facebook...

Offering to speak for free on teleseminars (remember those)

And on webinars...

For free...

It was like magic...

No more early mornings in a stuffy expensive suit....

I can literally hang lose and no one would know...

No more lagos traffic...

No more compulsory hugging of smelly people...

No more obligatory receiving of very poorly wrapped thank you gifts...

(Yes...I know...I'm terrible!)

And most important...

No more agonizing over how much cash I could carry safely...

Simply because some people preferred not to do mobile banking...

I could finish my talk and 10mins later see money in the bank...
