WHY Do People LOSE Motivation?

I hope you have had a great week! I just wanted to share with you some things that are going on in my life and encourage you.
😀 Updates:
- We finished the first week of our Transition to Clerkship unit. This upcoming week I will be shadowing a General Surgeon for 4 days.
😎 Encouragement/Motivation:
🤔 WHY do people LOSE motivation?
I can’t speak for everyone but these last 2 years of medical school have been a wild ride and because I analyze everything I’ve noticed patterns in myself that I wanted to share with you. 😀
1. The FIRST reason you’re losing motivation probably because you had a poor reason in the first place. It’s easy to make goals based on superficial desires that never form deeper roots. So when things get hard, your motivation will get ‘un-rooted’ and fade. Why do you do what you do? 🤔
2. The SECOND reason is that you desire the GOAL, the OUTCOME, the REWARD so bad that you don’t enjoy the process and that becomes discouraging. Then you start rethinking your plans and you look for a way out. Can you think of a time where you were GOAL oriented and not PROCESS oriented?🤷♂️🔥
3. The THIRD reason is that there is no sense of URGENCY. Without a deadline there nothing pushing to accomplish the task. 🐌🐌🐌
Example: imagine you’re on vacation with nothing to do other than go to the beach. You’ll wake up slowly, make breakfast slowly..it’ll be 12pm and you’ve done nothing. Because there’s nothing urgent there. ⛱
Now imagine you’re at home and you have class or work at 8am. You’ll wake up as soon as that alarm goes, make breakfast FAST, and you’re out the door! WHY? There was an EXTERNAL motivator and gave you a sense of urgency. What does your schedule look it?📆
