Happy New Year Listeners!
🖊️ Blog: Wanting to be heard VS Having Something To Say
Before I made listening video recaps, I wrote about it. That was the first 60+ tables, but when I updated my website, I lost the blogs. Now they're coming back.
📱 Voicemails: Leaving 2023 Behind / Wishes for 2024
I opened a voicemail box for people to share wishes for the new year and things they want to let go of. I got almost 1000 voicemails from people all over the world.
- The most common leave-behind: Feelings for exes
- The most common want: Happiness and self-confidence
The response was much larger than I expected, so I'll be doing more voicemail prompts over the year. Maybe you'll participate in one.

Making short recaps of my listening table experience is a practice for me to internalize what I'm learning. This story of a boy sharing that he wanted to make some friends, and them some other kids came by and something magical happened.

LAST WEEK'S LISTENER APPRECIATION
One viewer found these listening tables gave a sense of connection to others:
"Orly, your platform and specially the listening table changed my perspective on listening to a great degree. I never knew listening was a skill, and how you can work on it to improve it as well. This has deepened the connections in my life very much so, and I feel like I am expanding my skills at holding space for others as well.
I also did my own listening table too. Twice I did it. It was a marvelous experience, and one I'm super grateful to have done. It allowed me to gain different perspectives from people I may have not generally interacted with, and allowed me to hold space for people who have never ever seen or talked to me before too. It was an experience that I'd like to do again and one that I will say helped contribute to an area of growth in 2023 that I'm not sure I would of had if it wasn't for you, your platform, and your idea + content of the listening table.
So thank you Orly. I appreciate your contributions on social media, society, the world, and for helping me, a curious human being on listening, change my perspective on the world, and specifically listening. So thank you again. <3."
Another viewer wrote found beauty in the simplicity:
"Simply as pie, man, you told me to listen. I want to become a therapist, and for the longest time, it frustrated me that terrible people in my life went to therapy and were still bad people because a therapist couldn't have the confidence to call them out! But now I realize it wasn't the professional's fault but the person’s because listening takes two. The person listening and the person listening to themselves. Your content is fantastic and brings joy and a little bit of empathy every day into my life."
Setting up a listening table may not be for everyone.
There are a lot of reasons not to do it: it's inconvenient, bad weather, dangerous conditions, fear. Remember than any table can be a listening table if you make it one. You don't even need the table. If you do want to set one up, come to my How To Table session online on Sunday.
