Hi y'all,
This is the concluding email of 2023. In the new year, I'll be writing about goals and expanding myself without spreading myself too thin. This episode, I'd like to hear from you.
💬 200 Voices to help me feel heard
Last year, I asked you to help me feel heard by sharing if anything I'd posted made a difference in your life. My goal was to hear from 100 voices.
This year, it's double. Would you add your voice?
💾 Listening Table on Indiana news
What a surprise to hear of a Listening Table made the news in Bloomington, Indiana. The Bloomington table is run by the kind Shane Tanenbaum, who previously sold all his belongings to raise money for kids to buy Halloween costumes.
Shane has run over 25 tables since taking my How To Listening Table class and he has even brought his son as a silent observer.
I've loved animation all my life. This is my first foray into making it. It took days, but I learned a lot, and can't wait to try to make more.
Comics have also been a joy for me to read, and yesterday was a big step into the world of making short comics. I posted three styles of illustration on the original Instagram post. Feel free to weigh in.
LAST YEAR'S LISTENER BREAKTHROUGHS
One viewer found these listening tables gave a sense of connection to others:
"I would first like to say that through your videos I was able to understand that there are people going through the same thing I am, and if not even tougher things then me. I also wanted to thank you for being doing what you do. Not many people would take the time out of there day just to listen to people with no charge or judgement, it takes courage to do that in my opinion. I hope more people can do what you do so that way people can have a safe place or space to go to."
Another viewer wrote found my videos empowering him to practice:
"For years I have spent my life going through the motions. I have rarely made the first move on anything in my life whether it be relationships, work, health etc. I've been having a tough time recently in my relationship due to being gone for such long periods of time. But recently I've been trying to turn my negative situation into a positive one. I don't really have anyone I'd generally confide in and it's tough. So I've been trying to learn better coping mechanisms, and general strategies to help myself and those around me. After hearing and seeing your videos, it gives me hope that I can continue to learn and practice both better communication and listening skills. I know I have so far to go, and I hope I will be forever learning and changing how I approach communication. It's SO important in our every day lives to be mindful of those around us. Thank you for trying to make a positive impact on the world. I wish you all the best on your future endeavors, keep spreading the love."
Two things:
1) You can always start practicing communication skills. So often people think their way is the best because it has gotten them so far, but that's rarely informed by trying different things. Even if it's just for a day or a week, trying something unusual will give you a new perspective. You'll also learn that you are more flexible than you may have believed.
2) Your kind words help me feel heard. It's a weird feeling putting a message out into the universe and hearing little back. So this is your formal invitation to reply to this message if you've got anything to add, even if it's just letting me know you read it.
Please send your breakthroughs to me by simply replying to this email.
Let me know if you'd prefer to remain anonymous.
Happy listening,
Orly Israel
