WWU 18: Shit-talking Role Play

Nov 17, 2021 3:21 pm

Happy Wednesday!

I almost typed Happy Thanksgiving. Can you tell I'm ready for the holidays?! The year is coming to an end, and it's easy to jump to next year. But we still have time to work on our mindfulness and grow these last 6+ weeks.

This week we wanted to share a quote with you from Yung Pueblo:

"Your immediate reaction does not tell you who you are, it is how you decide to respond after the reaction that gives you real insight into how much you have grown. Your first reaction is your past. Your intentional reaction is your present."

Viktor Frankl, an Austrian neurologist, psychologist and Holocaust survivor said something very similar: “Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

And that's what we're working towards together. We're looking to grow that mindfulness to first, notice that space and be aware of it. And second, to then choose our response. Do we respond with choice and is the choice of response in the best service of ourselves.

And with that, I think we are led nicely into this week's Podcast Episode where Cindy and Heather discuss responding to a friend who is "bad-mouthing" a mutual friend.

🎙️ Podcast Episode: Shit-talking Role Play

In this Episode, Dr. B and Heather roleplay a situation where a friend comes to talk to you and is "bad-mouthing" a mutual friend. How does one handle a moment like this - keeping connection and integrity all at the same time? Tune in to learn.
