š§ Why Your Brain Resists Change
Nov 17, 2025 12:02 pm
Hi ,
Have you ever noticed that even the positive changes you want - a new habit, a fresh routine, a healthier boundary - can suddenly feel⦠uncomfortable? š¬
Youāre not alone.
Our brains are wired to keep us safe, not happy...
And āsafe,ā to the brain, often means familiar. Even if familiar isnāt working anymore.
So when you try something new, your brain goes:
Wait up⦠we donāt know this. This is different.
Different might be dangerous.
Letās pull back.
That feeling of resistance?
It isnāt failure.
Itās biology.
Itās your amygdala (the part of your brain responsible for scanning for danger and keeping you safe) trying to protect you the only way it knows how...
And this is where EFT tapping becomes such a compassionate tool - because it helps calm the alarm bells so your nervous system can gently accept the new thing youāre inviting in š
A little personal storyā¦
Whenever something significant in my life is shifting, I often have thisā¦almost childlike reaction š
Itās like a tiny version of me throws her toys out of the pram - āNope! Not doing it!ā š§øš¶ even when I know deep down the change is right, and needed.
For a long time I didnāt understand why...
But now I see:
That little part of me learned to crave sameness because my childhood was so chaotic...
Sameness felt like safety.
So when change comes - even good change...that younger part of me gets startled. She wants to hold onto whatās familiar.
And honestly?
I honour her.
She kept me safe for a very long time.
But now, as an adult, I get to support her through change instead of letting her carry the whole burden.
If this resonates with you, please know:
There is nothing wrong with you if change feels difficult.
Your younger self might simply be asking for reassurance, gentleness, and a slower pace.
Let's tap on change...
If youād like support with this, I recorded a Resistance to Change tap-along on YouTube that you can follow whenever your body says, āNot this⦠not today⦠not yet.ā
Tap with me here š https://youtu.be/RHbK-1o66VY?si=px3uWxdLzKlCpG1t
I hope it helps you soften the resistance in a kind, nervous-system-safe way.
š Come share your experience in the Heart Circle
Sometimes self-healing can feel a little lonely - especially if the people around us donāt really āgetā tapping, or if we donāt have anyone in our everyday life to share the journey with.
Thatās why the Heart Circle Community exists.
Itās a soft, supportive space where you can show up exactly as you are, talk about what youāre navigating, and be met with kindness, understanding, and people who speak the same language when it comes to EFT and emotional growth.
This week, weāre talking about change -
...what it brings upā¦
...how we move through itā¦
...and the tender inner-child moments we all experience along the way.
If youād like to join us, you can choose the free Explorer tier, or get 2 weeks free on the Self-Healer tier (no credit card needed) to access the full conversation.
Iād truly love to hear your story and what change feels like for you.
Be gentle with yourself today. Your pace is perfect.
With love,
