Struggle with sticking to new habits? [the Sunday Shift]

"I just can't stick to my habits!"
This has been a hot topic with my current clients and it's important because when we want to shift our life, we begin by shifting our habits.
Habits often get a bad rap, mainly because people attempt to tackle too much at once. Our brains tend to go from 0 to 100 real quick, and with such a significant leap, it becomes easy to talk ourselves out of our new habits.
I see you nodding your head, recalling the two promises you made this week to take a walk but ended up choosing Netflix instead. I've been there too—having great intentions but consistently dropping the ball.
Fortunately, I've transformed from a habit-ditcher to consistency using small increments of time and celebrating each and every time I stick with my new habit.
Start by pondering a new habit you would like to start. Maybe it's a daily walk to combat the dark days, decluttering your house, initiating an exercise routine, saving more money, or ............
Here is the secret to success and how I shifted my poor habit and goal strategy.
Apply the 2 minute rule.
Break down your new habit into a 2-minute goal. Yes, just 2 minutes.
- A 2-minute walk.
- Clean for 2 minutes a day.
- Exercise for 2 minutes.
- Read for 2 minutes.
- Sit quietly for 2 minutes.
- Go to a cafe and sit alone for 2 minutes.
You get the idea and the options are endless. Each and every new habit you add is supporting your bigger life goals.
Try this for a week, then hit reply, and share your experience.
I'll give you a sneak peek—clients who've embraced the 2-minute rule have been crushing their goals, achieving consistency for the first time ever, and exceeding their own expectations.
Breaking your goal down to the 2-minute rule can significantly boost your consistency and amplify your results.
Trust me, if you can overcome that initial hesitation and give this a shot, your consistency rate will soar, and your results will start to skyrocket.
But just remember, when you implement this rule, your ego is going to have a fit and tell you things like,
- "you can't accomplish anything in 2 minutes"
- "but I want to do more than 2 minutes"
But let's park that ego and trust the 2 minute rule and see what happens. I think you are going to be pleasantly surprised.
This is your 2-minute invitation to be curious and learn more about yourself while building a strong foundation of success when it comes to being consistent with your goals and shifting to healthy habits.
Have fun, be consistent and I can’t wait to hear how this changes the game for you.
