The Importance of Celebrating 2023 [the Sunday Shift]
Dec 31, 2023 11:05 am
Over the past couple of days, I spent some time quietly writing down all of the things I accomplished in 2023, big and small, personal and professional. I filled two pages with notes and listed 35 things that made me feel happy about how this year has unfolded.
When you take the time to think, visit your calendar and phone photos, and really recall meaningful moments, it makes for a life better spent. It allows you the space to focus on all the good times, moments, accomplishments, and choices of 2023.
Some of my personal highlights this year included:
- Developing a deep and loving relationship with my daughter. One that is built on mutual understanding, compassion, and trust
- Travelling as often as possible
- Committing to completing a Conqueror Walking Challenge (I only have 35 miles to go, then a I get a medal)
- Applied for my British Passport
- Embracing and living il dolce far niente which translates to “sweetly doing nothing.” Stop for a moment, breathe, and look around you. Life is beautiful. Now is the perfect time to do absolutely nothing.
Some of my professional highlights this year included:
- Successfully hosting my first retreat in Italy! Loved it so much I'm hosting 2 retreats in 2024
- Stopped doing too much and decided to choose 3 or 4 services/items I want to provide and focus my energy on those
- Ditched a lot of my social media accounts - joy and bliss!
- Financially invested in a mentor to help me shift from where I am to where I want to go with my business
- Sponsored Funny Fundraiser in support of We're Here for You an organization that provides immediate support to those who have been affected by intimate partner violence, sexual violence and family violence.
When you take time to look for the good in your life, you can find it. Sure there are things I didn't do that I wanted to do this year, and that's okay.
It's easy to get wrapped up in thinking about all we didn't do or accomplish but I strongly encourage you to put pen to paper and only write about what you did do because that is foundational. When you talk about all you did, you can see how you can build and create from there!
A year goes by fast. Savour the positive moments and decide what you want to create and experience for the upcoming year. Try and...
1) Plan and do one big thing you'll always remember (a retreat perhaps?)
2) Get out of the habit of doing the same old same old and inject something new into your life at least once a month
3) Embrace il dolce far niente - the sweet art of doing nothing
4) Simply be you and live unapologetically
You made it to the end of the year, you get another opportunity to live life to the fullest, take the opportunity and do it well.
What are you most excited to create and experience in 2024? Now go out and do that!
Cheers to the future!
