SYAO Creativity, the week of April 28, 2025
Apr 29, 2025 2:46 pm
Hello, everyone!
Happy Monday Tuesday! Here's the latest edition of SYAO Creativity. Let's see what's going on in our creative world this week! I'm running a bit late this week. We all got home from the yearly retreat Sunday night, and you know how travel throws off one's schedule! It was a wonderful weekend, once again! Lake Raystown is a terrific host.
STITCH (What I've been working on)
I've mainly been writing the block of the month and getting the Mix and Match mystery cowl clues looking pretty. Wanna do the cowl? Set up a time, and I'll fix you up with all the things. I'm pleased that almost 30 yarn stores are participating with Valerie and me this year!
In the meantime, I've started a new Cicada Symphony hat for myself. It's mainly teal and brown, two of my favorite colors! There are supposed to be lots of cicadas this year, so I'm mentally getting ready for all the excitement!
Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!
YOUR (What you've been working on)
At the retreat, we were lucky enough to have a class from designer Seth Apter, who zoomed in from New York just for us. He's a kind and generous person, and we all had fun with glue, fabric, and cardboard! Here are just a few of the pieces of art people made from the class. I think it's interesting that everyone got roughly the same materials, but interpreted them differently. That's creative inspiration!
All fabrics are Seth's--and yes, I still have a wee bit left--but a lot of it went fast over the weekend! I'll be getting more soon. I love his newest collection.

And Patti's (the key she added!):
Have you played with glue lately?
ART (Inspired by art or nature)
I'm not super fond of hot weather, bugs, and snakes, but the giant birds of Florida do draw me right in! Here's a Wood Stork that I saw last month at the Orlando Wetlands, in Christmas, FL. It's a 6-foot high chicken!
OUT (What's out on the shelves in the shop)
Did you do the Stitch Every Day in May challenge last year? It was fun, so let's do it again!
Click here to print the calendar, and then stitch even just one stitch or one row, or one seam, every day in May. (If you don't have a printer, stop by and I'll give you a handout.)
If you've completed it, bring it in by June 7 as a $5 off coupon. (Must spend at least $5.00 to get the full amount off.) Also, you get 3 free skip days. I know how things can happen!
As always, make an appointment to shop or browse, or just to show off your stuff! I can't wait to see you!
