SYAO Creativity, the week of April 14... I mean 15, 2025.
Apr 15, 2025 5:11 pm
Hello, everyone!
Happy Monday! Here's the latest edition of SYAO Creativity. Let's see what's going on in our creative world this week!
🧶 Before we get going… if you love yarn, don’t skip the last section of this newsletter—trust me on this one! Local Yarn Store Day officially lands on April 26, but I’m stretching the party out! Because why have one day of yarny goodness when you can have two weeks? 🎉
Important: Read to the very end and look for the purple, for how to win a $50 gift certificate, whether you're a yarn or a fabric person!
STITCH (What I've been working on)
This past Saturday, we rolled out Block #4 in our Big Blocks Block of the Month—and wow, it's coming together beautifully! With just four blocks, your quilt is already a bold 40" x 40"—and we’re just getting started.
It’s not too late to join in the fun! Catching up is easy, and the results for very little effort are so satisfying.
Call me at 814-238-4151 or set up a time to swing by and grab your packets.
I’m absolutely loving how this quilt is coming together—and I think you will too!
YOUR (What you've been working on)
Natasha made Winter Sparkles! Love those beads. This hat lives up to its name.
ART (Inspired by art or nature)
I just go back from Florida, and it was an amazing trip. Here's just one of the photos I took. I'm sure there will be more! I love all the gigantic birds. If you've never been to the Orlando Wetlands, in Christmas, FL, make it a point to go there, especially in the spring when there's nest building and baby birds.
Here's a spoonbill flying.
OUT (What's out on the shelves in the shop)
Local Yarn Store Day is April 26! There are all kinds of fun things going on for it, and I'm proud to say that I'm the person who's been running this event! It's been many hours of work, with lots of help from other shop owners and designers, and it's fun to finally see it all come to fruition.
It's going to be a big event this year; yarn stores from the U.S. and Canada have bought twice as many pins as in years before. (It took me over 5 hours to get them all mailed out!)
SO. If you buy anything for the rest of this month, you get a cute little thank-you pin! Be sure to ask me for it, in case I forget!
There are all kinds of great projects being offered, and here are the ones for Stitch Your Art Out:
Mix and Match Mystery Cowl
This is another fun mystery collaboration between Valerie Reed and me, and it's a quick, easy project that’s perfect for spring. If you buy the kit for this cowl, you'll get everything you need: the pattern, yarn, and beads—all bundled together!
You can get kits on the website, and here are the colors (which you'll also see there):
Celestial Bloom:
Groovy with Pink:
Groovy with Orange:
Harvest:
Stormy Seas:
The price includes shipping, the pattern, and beads. Local? I'll give you a $10 store credit for pickup instead of mailing.
The "Groovy" combos are exclusive to Stitch Your Art Out. Want something entirely different? We can work to create your own custom combo. I’d be happy to help you pick your favorites! I have lots of worsted-weight mini skeins you can choose from.
The finished cowl measures about 24" around and 7" high. Want yours a bit taller? Just grab an extra skein or two of yarn, and knit more of the clues.
Want to see the colors in person?—come in and take a look! The first clue drops on April 26, Local Yarn Store Day. Clues will be weekly from then on, skipping May 10.
(If you want the pattern only, that supports Valerie and me, too. You can get it here.)
Your choice of shawls
A number of designers are designing fingering-weight shawls, and are offering the patterns free with purchase of the yarn through local stores. If you buy the yarn from me, I'll happily give you coupons for the shawl you choose:
Sunny Brae Shawl by Sunni Scrivner
This shawl takes 2 contrasting skeins of fingering-weight yarn. (If you like teal and cream, we can make that happen!)
Squirrels in Paradise shawl by Becca Anderson
This shawl takes two skeins of a main color of fingering-weight yarn, plus one skein of either a fuzzy yarn or a contrast-color of another fingering-weight yarn. I have what you need! (If you want a color similar to the one pictured, I'll be making it happen. Let me know.)
The Double Win Mosaic Shawl by Jessica Ays
This shawl takes two dark skeins and one light skein of fingering-weight yarn. I love how the center section turns into a cowl! Clever.
In addition, Knitting Fever is having a needle-set contest! (One of my customers won this last year--nice work, Jill!) If you spend $50 or more on a Knitting Fever Brand, such as Juniper Moon Cumulus or any Noro yarn, just send in the receipt to Knitting Fever, and you'll be entered. One in 20 entries is a winner! Those are remarkable odds.
And I'm having a drawing, too! Come in to the shop and fill out a drawing form. You can be a yarn or fabric person for this one: The prize is a $50 gift certificate to the store, which can be redeemed by the end of May. Every time you come in, you'll be able to fill out another chance! I'll draw the winner on April 28.
As always, make an appointment to shop or browse, or just to show off your stuff! I can't wait to see you!
