Hello friends!
I hope this email finds you well :)
We’ve just finished the holy month of Ramadan here in Dubai, which was a lot less difficult (as non-Muslims who aren’t fasting) than it has been in previous years. The Government allowed eating and drinking during the day in certain zones, probably because the pandemic has already caused a lot of problems for cafes and restaurants. The month passed quickly! And we’ve enjoyed an extended Eid weekend this last few days.
(If you don’t know, Eid al-Fitr is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide that marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. Eid Mubarak to any of my Muslim friends!)
We went to the Banksy exhibition over the weekend, which purported to be the world’s largest recreation of Banksy’s art. It was fascinating to learn more about the graffiti artist and see a large proportion of his evocative work in one place.
It was interesting to see the number of rats that feature in his body of work. One interpretation is that rats are like street art - notoriously hard to control or suppress. It’s also said he is interested in the idea that when the human race disappears, rats will likely survive.
In other news, we’re regularly hitting temperatures of 37 degrees (99 F). Today, my weather app said it feels like 44 degrees (111 F) because of the 70% humidity. Eeek! And it’s not even summer yet. What’s the weather like where you are?
As always, here are some free books :)
