I hear the phrase above almost every day. I started hearing it from the time I published my first book in 2018 and I still heard it yesterday. Do you know one thing that is common to all those that use this phrase? None of them ever get the book even when it is available in PRINT COPY.
There is a saying that there is always an excuse to avoid doing what one does not want to do. “I do not like reading EBooks is one of the excuses given by people that are not serious about winning in life. They hate to pay the price to win. Those that know what it means to pay the price to win in life bought the EBooks and also purchased the print copies when they were released.
Whenever someone tells me “I do not like reading EBooks, I know that the person loves mediocrity. Who even told them that learning has to be comfortable? If learning is always comfortable, then everyone will be informed appropriately, but many people are deformed because they expect learning to come to them on a platter of gold.
Without any apologies, I am a world-class author today, thanks to my willingness to learn however hard it came. I never waited for a perfect time or gadget with which to learn. I just wanted to learn and become a better person than I was.
I started learning from the village by reading every word on the papers used to wrap Akara whenever I went to buy them; I graduated to borrowing newspapers and reading all that was readable. I would always hold a pen and paper with me so when someone said a new word, I would write it down, keep it and check it whenever someone borrows me a Dictionary.
Anyone with a dictionary was my friend. That was how I learned how to speak English Language and very fluently too. While others were waiting to gain admission to the University, I was learning. By the time I gained admission, I already knew more than the University could teach me about my profession and I wanted something more. This was why I said the University did not have the type of education I wanted. I was far ahead of many graduates before I gained admission.
Many people consider me very arrogant because I appear to know so much and I don't hide it. A lot of them always look for my errors just to prove that I am wrong. What they do not understand is that I paid the price demanded to learn. They say knowledgeable, but they forget no one brings knowledge from heaven.
They forget also that I was born and I grew up in a less informed environment, worse still, they forget that for me to have the knowledge and have the chance to puff up, I must have been very humble to learn when others aren't. If I am more knowledgeable, then it means that I have been more humble than those that accuse me of arrogance.
I simply cannot relate when someone tells me "I don't like reading EBooks". No alibi can make it sound sensible to me! Learning to develop yourself is never going to be easy. First, you have to unlearn, learn and relearn. This will require proper management of your ego. You have to pay the price to learn from someone you think does not know as much as you do. I have done that severally.
I am a man with one of the biggest egos in the world, but I put my ego aside whenever I have to learn something I need. I have enrolled in classes organized by my students. And many others who I thought did not know as much as I do. Do you still wonder why I am superior in knowledge? I paid the price they demanded!
