Lupus Awareness Month – Day 26 💜
Honoring Memorial Day
Today, we remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice deserves our respect and reflection, especially on this day. 💐
Now, let’s talk about biologics.
Biologics are a class of medication that target specific parts of the immune system. For people with lupus, they offer a more precise way to manage symptoms and prevent long-term damage.
Spotlight on Benlysta (belimumab)
- FDA Approved: Benlysta is the first biologic approved for both systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and active lupus nephritis (LN).
- How it works: It blocks a protein called BLyS that helps harmful B cells survive—reducing inflammation and immune system overactivity.
- Benefits: Helps reduce disease activity, prevent flares, and may slow organ damage over time.
- Lupus Nephritis: Especially effective in treating lupus-related kidney involvement—improving kidney function and reducing the risk of progression.
- Limitations: Not approved for those with severe central nervous system (CNS) lupus.
Benlysta isn’t a cure, but it’s an important option for those navigating lupus with complications like kidney involvement.
💜 We’ve now raised $3,072.55 toward the $5,000 goal. Thank you for every donation, share, and encouragement. I’m continuing through May 30 to raise funds and awareness.
