Hi 😊💗💗💗
I woke up this morning and realized I hadn’t sent out Day 24. So, I decided to send it along with today’s Lupus Awareness Month message.
The Day 24 message is in the video below, where I talk a little about antidepressants and how they’ve shown up in my lupus journey—not just for mental health but for managing overlapping conditions like fibromyalgia and Sjögren’s.
🎥 Watch the video here.
💊 Day 24: Antidepressants and Lupus (A Summary)
Antidepressants often get framed as emotional support tools—and they are—but in lupus care, they can also help with pain regulation, nerve sensitivity, and neurological symptoms.
For me, they’ve been part of managing fibromyalgia, which adds a layer of pain, fatigue, and brain fog on top of everything lupus brings. And when your body is constantly in fight mode, having tools that help your mind and nervous system cope matters.
🌗 Day 25: Mood Stabilizers and Lupus
Between inflammation, side effects from medications, and the sheer mental load of managing lupus, mood changes can be real and disruptive.
That’s where mood stabilizers come in.
Here’s the difference between antidepressants and mood stabilizers:
- Antidepressants focus on lifting mood, easing anxiety, and pain.
- Mood stabilizers help balance emotional highs and lows, especially when those swings are intense or unpredictable.
- Some people may use both, depending on what they’re dealing with.
Like antidepressants, mood stabilizers are taken orally and tailored to the individual. They’re part of a whole-person approach to managing lupus and the ripple effects it has.
