Mention the word “selling” and most people conjure up images of greed, pressure, or manipulation.
Pushy car dealers. Late-night infomercials. Inbox spam.
It’s no wonder so many of us hesitate to sell — we don’t want to be that person.
But here’s the truth:
No business can survive without selling.
Every idea that’s ever made a difference in someone’s life… had to be sold first.
Every small business that’s still standing… has learned how to close.
And yet, selling still feels uncomfortable for many entrepreneurs.
Not because they’re doing something wrong — but because they’ve inherited a distorted image of what selling is.
Imagine this:
A coach offers a life-changing program, but hesitates to mention it at the end of her free workshop.
She doesn’t want to seem pushy.
So instead, she leaves people inspired — but without a path forward.
Or:
A designer shares brilliant advice online but never promotes his services.
He worries it’ll come off as self-serving.
So potential clients scroll by, not realizing they’re looking at the very person who could help them.
This happens every day.
Not because selling is evil.
But because the fear of being seen as “salesy” keeps good people quiet.
If the words you use to close make you feel slimy…
maybe it’s not selling that’s the problem.
Maybe it’s the language.
The truth is:
Selling isn’t sleazy.
Selling is essential.
