🟩 Helping isn’t always helpful

Hi ,

When I work with my clients — or honestly, in most of my interactions — one instinct kicks in first:


How can I help?


It’s not always the right question, and sometimes it even backfires.

But most of the time, it opens a door.


In fact, many people come to talk to me because of that impulse.

I want to help.


But I’ve learned something important over time:

Some people are not easy to help.


On a practical level, here’s what usually makes it hard:

Their mind is a mess.


Not because they’re broken.  

But because life is noisy, and thoughts are jumbled, and clarity is a rare gift.


And here’s what I’ve seen over and over again:

With organization comes clarity.  

With clarity, we can see solutions.


So I’ve developed a little rhythm — a set of three questions I use to help someone get unstuck:


1. “What’s working and what’s not working?”

I used to ask these separately. But together, they flow better. They feel more natural. And they invite the mind to speak freely.


2. “What’s missing?”

This sharpens the focus. Suddenly, the problem has shape.


3. “What do you need?” or “What needs to happen?”

Now we’re in motion. There’s energy here. This is where the next step usually reveals itself.


Over time, something unexpected happened.

From doing this many times, I’ve learned something about myself.  

And I think it’s true for everyone.


There’s what we do…  

And there’s what we really do.


What I do is: Business growth coaching and consulting.

What I really do is: Help people get out of their own way.
