Hi ,
Let’s start with the obvious.
Your desk is where you “work.” But have you ever looked at it as part of your performance system?
The chair you sit in.
The surface you work on.
The light, the air, the noise, the posture, the screen height—
Every one of these either supports you… or slowly drains you.
And most people never realize it.
They just blame themselves for not being able to focus.
Or for feeling tired by 2 p.m.
Or for dreading sitting down to start a task.
But the truth?
A poor setup is a silent killer of energy, focus, and output.
Here’s something I’ve noticed:
If your environment feels temporary, your work becomes tentative.
Ever tried to work from a kitchen table?
You sit down and immediately feel like you’re intruding on something.
You can’t settle in. You’re alert, distracted, on edge.
Contrast that with walking into a space that’s meant for doing deep work.
The posture of your body changes. Your brain shifts gears. You arrive.
It doesn’t have to be fancy.
But it does need to be intentional.
Here’s where to start:
- Have a designated space. Even if it’s a corner of a room. Make it yours.
- Invest in comfort where it matters. A good chair, a clean desk, and a screen at eye level go further than you think.
- Ergonomics = energy. Feet flat. Arms at 90 degrees. Eyes looking straight ahead. Tiny changes here add up.
Action Step:
Audit your current workspace.
- What’s helping you focus?
- What’s making things harder than they need to be?
- What tiny adjustment could make the biggest difference?
This is less about spending money and more about spending attention where it counts.
In the next email, we’ll go deeper into how the design of your environment influences your default behaviours—without you even realizing it.
