You’ve just named the problem.
Your customer sees themselves in the story.
Now comes the moment that separates you from every other business trying to sell them something.
You say, “We know how you feel.”
That’s it.
That’s the second step in the staircase: Empathy.
Because when someone’s in a hole, the last thing they want is a pitch.
They want to know someone sees them.
Donald Miller says this is the guide peeking into the hole and saying,
“I’m so sorry you’re in there.”
It’s not about pretending you’ve been through the same exact thing.
It’s about showing you care.
This single sound bite builds trust faster than any sales page.
It positions you as the guide, not the hero.
And the moment they feel understood, the connection becomes real.
“Have you ever worried about money?”
“We know how it feels.”
That’s not fluff. That’s fuel.
Empathy creates instant connection.
You don’t need to over-explain.
You just need to say what most brands never do:
“We get it. And we’re here to help.”
