🟩 Shut up and take the win

Apr 01, 2025 4:48 pm

Hi ,

Yesterday, I spent the whole day creating, testing, and launching a new tool for the content I make.

There were a bunch of other things I wanted to do too...

But mostly, I got that one big thing done.

You might be thinking,

“Hey, good for you! You got something done!”

You might assume I felt proud, satisfied.

A job well done, right?

Nope.

Instead, I felt this weird emptiness.

Like an invisible hole in my chest.

Unfulfillment.

You might be surprised.

I was frustrated.

I’ve felt this before.

So I hit pause.

Got up from my desk.

Sat on the couch and just sat with it.

And after a few minutes, I noticed something:

“This feeling is familiar.”

Is it resistance?

Is it some old habit trying to sneak back in?

Yep.

It was that part of me that loves to downplay wins.

That part that whispers:

“You didn’t do enough.”

“Look at how much is still left.”

Total buzzkill.

And it reminded me of someone.

A friend of mine—smart, driven, kind.

Also a chronic overthinker.

Every time I gave her a compliment, she’d deflect with a “Yeah, but…”

Eventually, I started cutting her off with,

“Shut up and take the compliment.”

It worked.

She started accepting the good.

And yesterday, sitting on that couch?

I realized I had to do the same thing with myself.

“Shut up and take the win.”

Because the truth is:

Small wins matter.

Daily progress adds up.

Feeling good is allowed.

I didn’t go back to work after that.

I was tired.

But I felt proud.

The empty hole? Gone.

Filled up with something warmer.

Time with loved ones hit different that night.

And now—today, tomorrow, the next day—

Another win is waiting.

For you.

For me.

And for all other hardworking, self-critical humans like us.

If you ever feel like you’re stuck in that weird pressure-loop too…

Reply and tell me what’s going on.

I’ve got some resources that have helped me, and I’d be happy to share.
