Hi ,

So there I was in the medical school library, flipping through thick books, preparing for a speech on a disease I barely understood.

I remember thinking — what value can I possibly offer?

These books had been written by people with decades of experience. I was a student. Just learning this for the first time.

And the people I’d be speaking to? Professors. Doctors. Residents. People who already knew this stuff.

So I asked myself: what can I bring to the table?

That question changed everything.

Because I realized it wasn’t about teaching what’s already been written.

It was about showing how to use it.

Like, when you get a lab report back with twenty numbers on it… which ones actually matter? Which ones should you track over time? What does it mean for your next move with a patient?

So I made the speech about that.

I stood up and told the room, “I’m not here to teach you this disease. That’s not my place. But here’s what I can share — how I’ve started to make sense of all this information, and how I’ve begun to use it in a real, practical way.”

That speech landed. And I’ve carried that lesson ever since.

Because the truth is, we don’t need more information.

We need meaning.

We need people to curate the overwhelm.

In your industry, your market, your field — there’s no shortage of knowledge. There’s too much, actually. It’s noisy. It’s fast. It’s constantly changing.

But you can play a role that cuts through all that.

You can be the person who says, “Here’s what matters. Here’s what you can ignore. Here’s how to actually use this.”

And that? That’s valuable.

That’s leadership.
