🟩 The lie of the “salesy” message

Aug 01, 2025 1:16 pm

Hi ,

A client once told me,

“I’m afraid if I make my message too direct, it’ll sound salesy.”

Totally understandable.

No one wants to be pushy, cheesy, or manipulative.

But here’s the irony:

Most professionals are not in danger of sounding too salesy.

They’re in danger of not selling at all.

Here’s what usually happens:

They try to sound helpful.

They use soft, careful language.

They qualify everything to death - “this might help,” “for the right person,” “just something to consider…”

And then they wonder why no one’s taking action.

The problem isn’t that they’re pushing too hard.

It’s that they’re not leading.

Selling isn’t about pressure.

It’s about clarity, conviction, and leadership.

If you know you can help someone, and you’ve earned their attention,

then telling them what the next step is - that’s not pushy. That’s service.

A message that says “I can help” is not salesy.

A message that says “This might be for you, maybe, kinda…” is confusing.

When your message has clarity and confidence, it doesn’t repel people,

it reassures them.

It tells them you’ve done this before.

It tells them there’s a clear path.

It tells them you’re ready when they are.

That’s not hype.

That’s trust.
