Most fractionals and consultants blur this line.

Positioning: “I help growth-stage companies who’ve just raised capital realize their biggest risk isn’t growth — it’s running out of cash because their financial controls can’t keep up.”

The service tells you what they get.
The positioning tells you why they’d want this solution instead of hiring a full-time CFO, an accounting firm, or just winging it.
Your service might look identical to dozens of other consultants.
Same scope. Same price. Same deliverables.
But your positioning makes you the obvious choice for a specific buyer, with a specific problem, at a specific moment.
I know a consultant who focuses on sales ops.
His service is nothing unusual: systems, dashboards, pipeline reviews.
But his positioning?
He only works with companies whose sales teams are constantly missing forecasts because leadership has no visibility into deal quality.
So when a CEO gets blindsided by another missed quarter… they don’t think “generic sales ops consultant.”
They think “the guy who fixes forecast problems.”
