🟩 Why being good isn’t enough

Sep 09, 2025 2:57 pm

Hi ,

We had a great conversation.

Talked about our work, shared a few laughs, even traded contact info.

They said, "Let's definitely keep in touch."

A week later, I followed up.

Silence.

Two weeks later, I bumped into them again.

Blank look.

They didn’t remember my name.

Barely remembered the conversation.

At first, I brushed it off.

Maybe they were distracted. Maybe it was just a bad day.

But it happened again. And again.

Different people. Different settings. Same result.

That’s when it hit me: I wasn’t doing anything to make myself memorable.

I thought showing up, being kind, being professional was enough.

But it’s not.

Not when everyone you meet is juggling 50 conversations and trying to keep their own business afloat.

Not when attention is scattered and first impressions disappear in days.

Being good at what you do matters.

But so does being remembered for it.

Because if people can’t recall who you are or what you do, they can’t refer you. They can’t hire you. They can’t even follow up.

You blend in. You disappear. You become background noise.

And it took a few awkward moments like that one for me to see it clearly.

Now I pay attention to how I show up.

How I leave a mark.

Not in a flashy or fake way. But in a thoughtful, intentional, authentic way.

Because the truth is: if you want to be remembered, you have to give people something to remember.
