🟩 Automation is great… until it isn’t

Jun 29, 2025 5:11 pm

Hi ,

Following up on my last email about staying human in an AI world…

I’ve been thinking even more about what should stay manual.

It’s so easy to fall into the trap of automating everything—especially when there’s a tool or workflow promising to save time, boost output, or “10x” your whatever.

And look, I love a good system.

I’ve got tools that help with scheduling, delivery, even organizing my chaos into something that vaguely resembles structure.

But here’s where I draw the line:

I don’t automate the human parts.

Not the replies to someone who shares a win.

Not the creative spark behind a piece of writing.

Not the check-in with a person who’s supported my work.

Because as tempting as it is to build a machine that runs everything…

That machine doesn’t feel.

It doesn’t pause to say,

“Whoa. Someone took time out of their day to write this. That matters.”

It doesn’t build trust.

It doesn’t make people feel seen.

It just keeps moving.

And when you start optimizing for speed and scale, you risk sanding off all the edges that make you you.

So I’m trying to stay human.

Even if that means doing some things the long way.

Even if that means replying a day late.

Even if it’s a little messy sometimes.

I want to build a business that connects—not just converts.

And sometimes, that means slowing down… to stay close.

Curious—what are you choosing to keep delightfully human?
