🟩 The story I think about when I’m stuck in the grind
Jun 14, 2025 8:34 pm
Hi ,
You’ve probably heard the story.
A small village needed water from a river far away.
Two men were hired to bring it back.
The first man got to work immediately —
hauling heavy buckets of water back and forth,
earning money from day one.
The second man also carried buckets…
but in his spare time, he started digging.
He was laying a pipeline.
The villagers thought he was foolish.
Slow. Inefficient.
Even lazy.
But months later, when the pipeline was finished,
he simply turned a valve — and water flowed freely.
No buckets. No back and forth.
He earned more, worked less, and had built something that lasted.
It’s a classic parable, told in business circles all the time.
The lesson?
Build systems. Don’t just trade time for money.
If you want freedom, you need leverage.
Buckets get you paid today.
Pipes get you paid forever.
And that’s true.
So many entrepreneurs spend years stuck in “bucket mode” —
grinding through tasks, responding to urgency,
living in the day-to-day.
And at some point, we have to ask:
What are you building while you’re carrying?
Because hustle without direction doesn’t build freedom.
It just builds fatigue.
So: yes, build the pipeline.
Even slowly.
Even while no one notices.
Even while they think you’re behind.
Because one day, they’ll be sweating under the sun —
and you’ll turn the tap.
