🟩 Nice isn’t enough

Hi ,
A while back, I reviewed a client’s homepage.
The copy was beautiful.
Elegant phrasing. Smooth rhythm. Professional tone.
They were proud of it — and I could see why.
But there was one problem:
I had no idea what they actually did.
This is one of the sneakiest traps professionals fall into.
You write words that sound good… but don’t say much.
They’re clean, safe, and polished.
They use all the right buzzwords.
But they don’t answer the real question in your reader’s mind:
“Is this for me, and can it help?”
Here’s the truth:
You don’t get points for sounding nice.
You get results for being clear, useful, and emotionally resonant.
In fact, overly polished language can create distance.
People don’t feel invited in — they feel like they’re being marketed to.
If your message hides behind beautiful language,
you might impress people, but you won’t move them.
So here’s a quick test:
Look at a key part of your copy — your headline, your about line, your main offer statement — and ask yourself:
- Does this feel clear in 5 seconds or less?
- Would my ideal client immediately know it’s about them?
- Is there any part of this that sounds good, but doesn’t do anything?
If you catch yourself saying,
“Well, I like it, but I’m not sure if it works,”
that’s your cue to dig deeper.
Nice words create comfort.
Clear words create action.
You don’t need to sound better.
You need to connect faster.
