đźź© How to Guarantee Failure, part 2

Hi ,
This email is about Invisible Habits That Quietly Sabotage You
[Disclaimer: If you want to guarantee failure, follow these to the letter.]
Yesterday’s email was about the most obvious ways we sabotage our goals — like always starting tomorrow, taking advice from the wrong people, or quitting after one failure.
If you missed it, you can read it here
Today, we’re going deeper.
Because while some habits scream “I’m self-sabotaging!”, others whisper it.
They’re invisible, insidious, and hard to spot — especially when they feel “normal.”
These next seven habits? I’ve been guilty of all of them.
They look like small mindset slips.
But together, they’ll quietly drain your ambition, lower your standards, and kill your momentum — all while convincing you you’re being “realistic.”
So let’s bring them into the light.
7 Subtle Ways to Guarantee Failure
1- Complain about what you can’t control.
It feels productive. It isn’t. Complaining gives you the illusion of action without any real change.
2- Expect someone else to save you.
The government. Your boss. Your life-partner. Your coach. Waiting for a rescue is how people get stuck for years.
3- Value other people’s opinions more than your own.
Let external judgment override your internal compass. Ask permission. Stay quiet. Dull yourself down so others feel comfortable.
4- Avoid discomfort at all costs.
Discomfort is your greatest teacher. Avoiding it guarantees you stay stuck.
5- Tolerate mediocrity — from yourself and others.
Let “good enough” become your standard. Shrink your goals until they fit your effort.
6- Make promises. Break them.
To others, yes — but especially to yourself. And every time you do, you chip away at your own self-trust.
7- Wait for perfect conditions.
Spoiler: They never arrive. And even if they did, the moment conditions change… your progress disappears.
Flip the Script
Let’s invert these subtle failure habits and turn them into principles for progress:
Focus only on what you can control. Let the rest go.
Expect no one to save you — and you’ll never be disappointed.
Value your own voice more than outside opinions.
Seek discomfort. It’s a compass pointing to your growth edge.
Tolerate nothing but excellence — starting with yourself.
Make promises. Keep them. Especially the ones no one else will know about.
Take action in imperfect conditions. It builds real resilience.
These are quiet shifts.
But they’re powerful.
Because when you hold the line on these, everything else gets easier.
Tomorrow, we’ll talk about the illusion of progress — how you can be “working hard” and still going nowhere.
But for today, here’s your prompt:
What discomfort have you been avoiding… that might actually be your next step?
