How to solve the binge-eating problem

No, the solution is not binge-eating carrots. It's something else...

Do you feel guilty after a binge-eating session?

It may be because you don't know how to solve binge-eating.

So here's the solution:

First, know there are three common causes to binge-eating:

These are stress, tiredness, and hunger.

Let’s unpack each cause:

With stress, we look to cope.

The stressor may be hard to handle at the time.

We try to alleviate stress through other means like comfort food or distractions.

Next, when tired, our body tells us we need an energy boost.

The tired brain tries to get the easiest foods to restore energy.

These are often processed foods, treats, and fast food.

Moreover, our willpower is depleted when tired so we make poorer choices.

Finally, we’re hungry when we eat meals that don’t satiate us.

These meals are often low in healthy proteins or fats.

And when not satiated, the body searches for a quick energy source.

What’s a quick energy source available in large quantities nowadays?

Sugars, fast foods, and mostly-unhealthy meals that require no cooking.

Do you see what the three causes have in common?

They all lead to binge-eating.

Ideally we take care of these causes so binge-eating doesn’t happen.

But we’re human. Sometimes we’re tired. Stressed...

Or just craving two scoops of premium chocolate ice cream from Smith+Canon here in Denver. (Just me? Ok.)

Now that we understand what causes the problem, it’s time to ask…

What’s the solution?

In these times you must have the right coping strategies in place.

If you plan ahead, you’re more able to take a healthier road than binge-eating.

Healthier roads include:

And others.

So plan your strategy for the next binge-eating attack.

And let me know if it works for you,

Jen

P.S. How do you deal with cravings when they come up? Do you take a different action or do you eat what your heart desires? It’s ok, I won’t judge you. Just curious. Hit "reply" on this email and let me know!

P.P.S. Not sure if Courtney told you... But we're cooking something interesting and we plan to reveal it next week. Keep an eye out for emails with an announcement!
