On our free FB group, I asked our members how much sleep are they getting.
Their responses showed a pattern:
People who got 3-5 hours a night mostly said they'd love more and better sleep.
Some people with six hours a night were comfortable with their sleep.
Most of them, however, also wanted to increase their sleep quality:
And people sleeping seven to nine hours said they feel satisfied with their sleep.
They said their energy levels and mood throughout the day was high:
Do you see the pattern here?
Sleeping seven to nine hours a night is the sweet spot for most people.
Sleep is key because it:
- Recharges your body so you're refreshed and alert throughout the day.
- Strengthens your immune system
- Reduces stress and improves your mood, making you feel happier
- Enhances your brain functions: memory, decision-making, cognitive functions, and creativity
Now how do you sleep more, and better?
Here are four easy ways to do so:
- Black out your room at night. Light impedes your brain from producing melatonin, the sleep hormone. If your room's pitch black at bedtime, you'll sleep better and wake up energized.
- Don't drink water too late. Doing so may cause you to wake up and go to the bathroom, often several times on the same night.
- Reduce blue light. Blue light (found in phones, TVs, computers, and LED lights) keeps you up at night and also prevents our brain from producing melatonin.
- Move a lot! Exercise has been proven to decrease sleep onset (the time it takes you to fall asleep after laying down) and helps you sleep deeper throughout the night.
Do these four tips and you'll see your sleep increase!
And stay tuned for our FB group...
We'll share some more tips to improve your sleep this week or the next. :)
