Hi!  How have you been?  It has been a busy year for me.  I know I've been MIA for like nine months and in case you forgot who I was; I write books and make art LOL.  In fact, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the release of my first book, The Secret of Genetic Corp X.  I managed to get Gen X and a second edition of Psi X out this summer, but when 2024 started off, I wasn’t doing so hot.

I ended up having to go to the ER because I had this gnawing, uncomfortable pain that did not relent.  No matter what I did, I couldn’t eat, couldn’t sleep, and could not get the pain to let up.  I finally gave into my daughter’s pleas to go to the ER after I ate ONE Cheerio, which caused me immediate excruciating pain.  Turns out my gallbladder was trying to kill me.  Full of infection, necrosis, and giant 1980s jaw breaker sized stones...it was well on its way to bursting open. EWW.  Thankfully, the surgery went well.  But man having surgery like that sure zaps your energy and your wallet.  Surgery was not on my 2024 bingo card!

Besides my ER trip, my daughter fell off a porch and bonked her head, requiring a trip to get her checked out, which she was OK, just sore. Then, a month later, she nearly broke her foot. That required several visits and a specialty doctor. Luckily, she broke nothing, and healed good as new.

But of course, I've had a lot of visits to the hospital in 2024. Both of my maternal grandparents have been in and out of the hospital several times this year. I thought they were going to have to assign them a permanent room with the time they spent going in and out of there!

Oh, and last week my mom fell and literally broke her face. Like she fell off a porch last year and got a new bionic shoulder and now she might get a plate in her cheek. I guess I need to invest in some bubble wrap suits LOL!

And did I mention I ended up with two new kittens last year? Yeah, I have six cats now. Sigh. Donations are always welcome to help me cover the cost of the six fur babies and one human baby!

Anyway, I had my first author show for 2024 on 8/3/24 at the Lagrange Bookfair.  Before this, all my other shows got canceled or didn't work out.  On 8/24/24 I will be at Paul Sawyier Library for the Gathering of Authors.  I’m still working on the fall shows, but you can bet your bippy I will be at the Bluegrass Writers Coalition’s Festival of Books in November.

So, how has your 2024 gone? I hope it's been less of a Lemony Snicket year for you!

Until next time

-Shannon

Literary Links

My bookmarks continue to be a great hit when I am at shows.  I’m perfecting all the parts and pieces still, but I’ve come up with some cool ideas.  My latest things are the Literary Links:  Bracelet Edition and Base Edition.  That’s right, I have a bookmark that turns into a bracelet.  Know what pairs well with that?  Book Baubles Charms.

I’m currently trying to get all my irons into one big fire.  I’ve partially redone www.shannonmcroberts.com to have information on everything I’m doing.  Please feel free to check out the new website and send me any feedback!

Bookwyrm Inklings

image

Surprise!  I finally wrote a children’s book.  I ended up hiring an illustrator, and this is one of the character concept proofs.  They already have several pages drawn and colored!

The Bookwyrm Inklings live in the Literary Lair, where they attend school to learn various skills to help cultivate art around the world.

“In a very special town called Stardust Hollow Valley, there's a magical place called the Literary Lair.  And in the Lair, magical creatures called Bookwyrm Inklings live!  Born of ancient tales and tomes, these little dragons hope to learn how to show others the beauty and magic found in the arts.”

I plan on getting the book out in late 2025 and will also have other surprises to go along with this book.  Stay tuned!
