Back to Writing Despite the Chaos
Jun 25, 2026 12:01 pm
My whole "I'm just going to do this one modification to my hobo house" project has sprawled into a never-ending process to give the Winchester Mystery House competition.
New solar panels were just delivered: An actual Amazon truck brought one set, and UPS brought the other set. Same, exact panels. I didn't expect them to get delivered by different companies, let alone at the same time... also, the Amazon dude was a cutie. I already have a slight crush on our regular UPS guy. Having them both standing together in the sun room with me? Hmm... maybe I should write reverse harem. (Devilish grin... new email editor still doesn't give me emojis. Oh well.)
Last time I showed you the desk, it was a mis-matched temporary piece, this one is still temporary, but it's the right shape and configuration now. (That piece on the left will fold down to expand the workspace as soon as I get a piano hinge for it.)
At this point, I have lost patience with my construction project and just want it "done enough," so all my countertops/desktops are going to be temporary for probably another year now.
It's dang hot here through the summer days: I spend my afternoons in the house now where it's actually freezing cold (I'm wearing thick socks and a hoodie while it's 100 degrees outside,) but the evenings are gorgeous and I've been enjoying sitting at my new workspace and working late into the night.
As much as I'm bummed about not fitting in a road trip this year, I admit that it's nice to be able to leave those back doors open till 2 in the morning without worrying about bears or raccoons coming to visit.
Here's the author-part of this email:
I wandered off my writing schedule last December after beginning the Rogue Ops Mountain Security Protocol series.
If you haven't gotten there yet, it's a sort of ex-military, mountain man, high stakes, suspense-y thing that has taught me that 1. I am never going to nail the military romance genre, and 2. I like my good guys to come with red flag warnings; these are not clean cut, do-gooder military guys.
I also left the teaser to book 2 on a cliff hanger that was never meant to be hanging this long.
So... the big question to you is: Is that where I should pick back up? Or do I start back up with another ranch family in Slow River Valley? (It'll be the Savage brothers of the U&U ranch.)
There is also a new Match-Maker trilogy coming for the holidays and I absolutely have to put everything aside starting in September to work on that and only that. So where ever I am in which ever series, it'll get put on the back burner if it's not completed by then.
In other news: I'm sorry I'm a hot mess this year. It was not the plan.
