Can't Talk Right Now, I'm Reading
Jun 11, 2026 12:01 pm
Hmmm... my email service did a bunch of updates and everything is different this week. That's probably not of much interest on your end, but it's low key freaking me out.
For instance, I can change my font. I don't remember being able to do that before. More importantly, I can change my font size! I'm very excited about this. Very, very excited!
Please reply and let me know which of the sentences in that paragraph you like the best.
FTR: there are some other things over here in the sidebar that I have no use for right now and will have to explore later.
Let's get to the point-- there isn't one.
A couple weeks ago, I mentioned that I was about to lose sleep binge reading the latest series from Jolie Vines (Skeleton Crew.)
Y'all, I started off so good; managing to read just a few chapters each night and put the book away by 2 a.m. which is around bedtime for me most nights.
Then, mid-way through book 2, I started the "just one chapter" mantra, finishing book 2 and all of book three in one night. "One night" equaled 18 hours. Don't judge me.
This is why I love novellas. Although, a compelling series will still get me, every time. Who needs sleep? Or work? Or bathroom breaks? Or showers? Of course, I still need food, but I can eat and read at the same time.
The rest of the week has been the usual you've been hearing-- trying to rebuild my little hobo house camper trailer and not writing my own books yet.
Someone lost the keys to the shed yesterday, so IDK how much progress I'm going to make on the building project until that gets resolved-- it's the BFF's shed. I blame either her husband or her grand-daughter for losing the keys. The sawhorses are in the shed, but if it comes to it, I can go buy a new set.
Also, yes, it feels weird to acknowledge that my bestie is a grandmother. So, to shake off that "damn, when did we get this old?" feeling...
From Bush; A Wild Romance. Which happens to be my favorite thing I've ever written. It also qualifies as a full length novel-- just barely tho.
If you haven't read Bush, or any of the other Wild Romance Collection books-- and assuming you want to-- ebooks are available from my shop, and everywhere else. Paperbacks are on Amazon. They aren't in KU anymore (hence, being -- legally-- available outside of Amazon) but they can be read "for free" in Kobo Plus. (Hint: Kobo Plus is cheaper than Kindle Unimited and gives you access to a lot of authors who aren't in KU. If you weren't already aware.)
I've working on upping my social media game-- not that you can tell from looking at my actual social media feeds yet! But it means I have a gazillion of these slides piling up on my drive that will eventually get posted. It's a work in progress and something I can do in half-hour increments while waiting for wood glue, stain, paint, or polyurethane to dry.
I write the way I read... just one more chapter... just one more chapter... wait, when did I fall asleep?
Reader me will be losing sleep weekly for the rest of the summer, because I also fell into the world of Elle Thorpe's Saint View last summer. (I'd read several of her cowboy books a few years back.) I somehow managed to start in the middle and read 3 series before forcing myself to put the books away and get on with my own writing.
I don't know how much overlap I have in my readership with Elle and Jolie? (anyone?) But Elle's got a new series dropping in August and I have 3 more of the Saint View series to catch up on-- and she's doing this fun little full world read through with her group and... I admit it, I want to play along.
If you want to talk to me about reading other people's books, this is where reader-me will be for the next few weeks. (I will not read 18 full length novels without sleeping... I will not read 18 full length novels without sleeping... I will not...)
When will I be back to writing for real? SOOOOOOON. Because writer me is getting stir crazy enough that I'm eyeing all the stuff left to finish in the hobo house and thinking up ways to throw together quick fixes so I can put the rest off till fall. Or next spring. Or whenever.
If I'm not writing full time again by the end of June, someone come after me and pry the circular saw from my hands!
