When a visiting folklorist comes up missing near where my logging crew is camped, I'm the one who finds her; huddled in a cave, covered in scratches, and too terrified to answer the search team combing the woods looking for her.

Young and innocent, with curves like the mountain road that winds up to my work site; there was a time when I'd have pounced on Ivy like a big cat on prey.

But one look in her trusting, emerald eyes, and I find myself planning to protect her forever.

I saved Ivy from becoming part of the local lore-- another woman gone missing in these legendary woods-- now, is she going to save me from a life I didn't know needed her in it?

I realized I haven't been sharing many photos from the real life lately! Frankly, when my internet connection is weak, it's a pain to get the photos from the phone to the laptop.

I have to email them to myself-- because I am not an Apple girlie, but the laptop is a Mac now. My Android phone and the computer refuse to speak to each other! Even though, as far as I can tell, there should be ways around that-- I haven't figured it out. (Look, it's a miracle I'm not still typing on a manual Underwood, okay?)

But here's a picture of my one woman celebration of finishing Jake and Ivy's story this weekend.

I had my cup custom engraved last year just for the purpose to toasting my "The Ends." The huckleberry wine came from La Grande, Oregon-- and was the huckleberry version of Boone's Strawberry Hill...so, it was delicious and tasted like I was too young to drink again! The backdrop is the backwoods of the Idaho panhandle forest where Jake and Ivy's story was written.

Last week, I ventured into the nearest towns to where I've been camped-- mostly in search of a shower, laundry, and anything huckleberry (I got ice cream.)

Moyies Spring had very few of those things and I ended up further south in Bonners Ferry-- but I took this shot of the lumber yard/saw mill there because it reminded me of how I envision Birch McAllister's mill yard in Moonshine Ridge.

By the time you read this, I'll be-- well, I'll still be asleep, because I schedule the email to send at 5 a.m. my time-- but Carver Murdock's book will be written in Washington.

I'm pretty excited to see how it turns out-- but that'll be next week's email.
