A Sneak Peek, and some FREE fantasy reads!

The release of Book 2 is getting closer and closer!! I'm both excited and reluctant for Vince and Cora's journey to come to an end. Of all the characters I've written, I love their growth and arc the best. Seeing this fearless assassin come to love and sacrifice for her people, and seeing this innocent angel learn about war and strength and hardship has just been awe-inspiring! In many ways, my characters write themselves. The story writes itself.

Sometimes I feel like I shouldn't take credit for it because I didn't do anything! My characters did all the heavy lifting. 😂

A Sneak Peek

As a treat for you, here's a sneak peek of Book 2, The Angel's Vow:

“You don’t have to do this, you know,” Vince murmured.

I looked up at him. His brows pulled together, his jaw rigid. Fire blazed in his eyes, and for a moment, he looked like that warrior angel I’d seen in my dream.

I leaned up and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. He grunted in surprise but grasped my waist, pulling me against him. “I’m with you, Vince,” I whispered against his lips. “Always. I’ll fight for you. Kill for you. I’ll slaughter anyone who gets in our way.” I drew away to look up at him, relishing the hot desire stirring in his eyes. Not a whiff of fear of who I was or what I could do.

I loved that about him.

“Remember the plan,” I said breathlessly. “Stay safe.”

He nodded, pushing my hair behind my ear. “You too.”

I touched his cheek, and then with a pop, he vanished, leaving me alone on the darkening street. A gust of wind tousled my hair, and I glanced up at the dark clouds, recognizing the warning of a thunderstorm.

Let it come. Let it rage around me.

This segment is for those of you who are writing and looking to improve! Please keep in mind I am not an expert by any means, but I do have a lot of experience that I would love to share with you! 🙂

This week's tip is on Traditional Publishing, Part 2!

So, you've finished your novel, gotten feedback from beta readers, edited and polished it, and written a query letter. What now? How do you find literary agents to send it to?

Query Tracker is a free tool that is a database of literary agents - and they're all legit! (that's something to look out for if you're just Googling literary agents - some of them might not be what they seem, so beware!). I'd recommend searching through Query Tracker for agents who specialize in your genre. Do your research. Check out their website. Study their submission guidelines. Many of them are on Manuscript Wish List, and you can see exactly what they're looking for in a manuscript. Google the agent and see if anyone has done an interview with them - that will also give you a peek of what they're looking for.

When you send your query letter, address the agent by name. Do not just send a batch of queries to your list of agents. Agents looks for query letters that are personalized and show them why they specifically are the right fit for the book. Cite something about them that is particular to your book (i.e. "I noticed in your interview in 2008 with Such-and-such Book Blog that you enjoy manuscripts with fantasy and a touch of humor. I think my story will be a good fit for you.")

Also, don't send your queries all at once. I recommend sending in batches of 10 or so, and then waiting for a response. If you get all rejections, then you'll know you need to tweak your query letter, and you can work on it some more before sending it to the next batch of agents.
