Hello!
Happy Independence Day to those in the USA! I'm at a local outdoor event today selling books, so I'll be doing my best to stay hydrated, ha! How do you celebrate the holiday?
We normally grill out at the in-laws and hang out until just before dark, then we head home to bring our dogs in because they don't like fireworks.
Speaking of dogs... we had one pass away this week. She was only 5, and it's not clear to us what the cause of her death was. She was her normal self Monday night, and then Tuesday morning she was dead.
My kids got her at a flea market back during Covid, and I was not happy about it. We already had 2 dogs, and they didn't ask our permission. They just bought her and brought her home. My youngest child promised she would take care of her, and guess how long that lasted? A few days at most. And since I work from home, guess who had to take over?
Yep, it was me. She would nap at my feet while I worked, and when I ate breakfast or lunch, she would eat her puppy food. I'd let her out so she could do her business, and then she would come back in and we'd play with a stuffed toy rabbit. And, of course, she grew on me. This was the routine for a month or two until she was big enough to be outside with the other, bigger dogs.
My wife always called her my dog, but I would argue she wasn't, that I only raised her because our kid wasn't taking care of her. But deep down, she was my dog, and I knew it. I was working downstairs when my wife texted me that she'd found her in the doghouse. I went upstairs to talk with her and I took the news well, and when I went back downstairs to finish working, I had my moment of mourning.
It's weird that she's gone. She was an all white husky, and she was the sweetest. My wife's other 2 dogs were named after Disney princesses (Belle and Jasmine), and so this one was named Aurora.
Here's Aurora when she first arrived at our house:
And here's Aurora as she got a little bigger (she liked to play in the mud):
Anyway, on a positive note, I've paused work on book 2 of the new series I'm working on and switched to a series continuation. I'm not going to say which series just yet, but the story is shaping up pretty well.
This month I'll be in Knoxville, TN for Fanboy Knoxville and Miami for Florida Supercon, and at the end of this month/beginning of next month, I'll be in Indianapolis for Gen Con.
It's a busy month for events, and I'm really excited for Gen Con. It's one of my favorite shows for a number of reasons, so if you're in any of the areas of these events, come see me!
Below you'll find a promo for free ebooks and the link to my next Kickstarter which launches next week!
What I’m reading: I'm still working my way through A Breaking of Realms by Jasmine Young.
What I’m watching: I rewatched the movie Now You See Me movies. They're such fun movies. I also rewatched the Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: End Game movies. The scene where Captain America wields Mjölnir against Thanos is such an epic moment.
What are you reading/watching?
As always, a huge thank you for the support!
