Hello!
Between my Salt Lake City and Myrtle Beach events, I'm finally home for a few weeks!
The trip to Salt Lake was fun, despite the long drive. We stopped in Colorado Springs to see my daughter and new granddaughter, and then I went from there to Salt Lake for FanX. It was a total of about 30 hours there spread across 3 days. The drive was uneventful, with hardly any traffic and lots of empty landscape.
Here's me with the new granddaughter Lily:
My wife stayed with our daughter for the week while I went on to my event, and I got to see them again on the way back to pick up my wife. It was great seeing them, and they'll be out to see us for Thanksgiving, so that's nice.
Regarding FanX, it was a good show, though I think being in a multi-author booth was probably a bit detrimental for sales. Although we aren't in competition with one another, we are fighting for the same dollars, and having so many options in one spot was probably not the best idea. Considering how large the show is, I was expecting to do far more than what I did, and if I do FanX again next year, I will book my own table. That way, I can test if my theory is correct.
I also had someone on my left (a friend) who sells in an aggressive manner, and he definitely affected the sales of the people on our side, including mine, so that also didn't help. With all that said, it wasn't a bad show for sales, it just didn't meet my expectations.
After the show, I drove 9 hours back to Colorado and spent the night, then we drove 21 hours (split across 2 days) back home to Georgia. I was home for 2 days, and then drove 7 hours to Myrtle Beach for Boadwalk Comic Con.
I enjoy events, but I'm also tired of driving, ha! Thankfully my next few events are local, so I don't have to drive far and I'll be home each night.
My latest Kickstarter campaign ended recently, and it's officially my best campaign. It did $11,800! How awesome is that?!
On the writing front, I'm about midway through book 3 of my new series. For those who missed my newsletter about the new series, here's a quick recap:
Fabric is memory. Every garment, banner, or scrap of cloth absorbs traces of the life it touched. One of the main characters has a rare gift allows her to “pull the thread of memory” from cloth and give it form. With a needle and thread, she can awaken voices, visions, or even spectral beings stitched from the essence within the fabric.
She hides her ability, working in a market stall repairing clothes, until one day her stitches awaken something that cannot be hidden.
The other POV is from Caedric, an Unraveler who works for a branch of the Weaver's Guild called the Hemlock Circle. They are tasked with hunting down rogue weavers and bringing them to justice.
This will be an enemies to lovers story, but without the spice. I'm having a lot of fun with the magic system and the character dynamics, and I can't wait to share it with you. As it stands, the series will be called Thread Witch, and book 1 will be titled Threads of Memory. Book 2 is Threads of Rebellion, and I don't yet have a title for book 3.
As I mentioned previously, this could all change once I get ready to publish them, but right now I like the titles I have, so we'll see if I come up with anything different before then.
