Jesus just instituted the Lord’s Supper and after they drank, He said, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.” He gave them and us a context for what had just happened. The book of Jeremiah chapter 31 declares the coming covenant Jesus just instituted.

[33] For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people. - Jeremiah 31:33

Jesus just declared to the disciples they had God’s law written on their heart and they were His people. Every time you take communion you are declaring your position as a member of God’s people. Wrapped up in this declaration is our identity and purpose. We are God’s people, and we are able to know and keep His law written on our hearts. Anticipate your glorious declaration that God is your God as you prepare to celebrate communion this Sunday.
