Why would a blind man ask for mercy from Jesus? Being blind this man lived at the mercy of every person he knew and particularly his family. He could fall off a cliff or into a pit if he were not helped along by others. His mind knew he was a desperately needy person. He was saying what we all need to say to Jesus. 

We have such pride because we can see. We think we are ok with the world and with God. In reality, we are just as needy as that blind man. We need mercy just as much as he does. We need healing from our sin just as much as he needed healing from his blindness. You see, the plague of humanity is sin; the same sin that caused this man’s blindness. For healing we all need Jesus to be merciful. Then when healing comes, we follow Jesus rejoicing and glorifying God. Thanks be to God, Jesus is merciful.
