In every generation there are those that are commissioned by God and those that are imposters. Both speak in the sight of God and will experience the penetrating gaze of God. One will receive approval and one condemnation. As the listener, how do you distinguish between the two? That is the question. The difficulty is in not knowing the private life of any preacher. They both are handling and proclaiming the effective and powerful word of God. They both are able to speak well. 

Our passage speaks of sincerity being the defining characteristic of the man that is commissioned by God. Sincerity is defined as: freedom from deceit, hypocrisy, or duplicity; honesty in intention or in communicating; earnestness. The word duplicity powerfully describes the peddler of God’s word. As the listener of God’s word I truly want it to penetrate my life, then I will let God be the judge of the speaker. I can rest in the fact that the word is powerful in my life.
