Building My Brand - Does it Apply to ME?
Jan 10, 2025 12:01 pm
Dear ,
You're building your brand with everything you think, say, and do (or don't do).
You may think: "Rae, I'm working a corporate job, I don't intend to build a brand online..." or "Rae, most of my clients come to me through referrals, I don't want to post on social media..."
Building a brand does not equals post on social media or building thought leadership. It is way more than that.
And the truth is, in this day and age where 99% of people are competent at what they do, being "good at your job" or "delivering good service" won't automatically get you the opportunities and clients.
Your BRAND and REPUTATION - what people know about you, how they feel about you, and what they say about you when you are not around.
Whether you like it or not, your brand (whether you've built it intentionally or unintentionally) is working for you without you around.
If you're working in a company, building an internal brand is important.
- How do your colleagues feel about working with you?
- How are you as a leader?
- What are you known for? Your ideas? Perspectives? Work ethic? A certain skill you have (i.e. creative, analytical, organised)
- Are you memorable?
- Do your ideas stick?
If you're pretty established in your industry but you have no online presence, how can building an online brand magnify your impact? Because when clients refer you to their friends, the first thing they'll do is find you on LinkedIn or Instagram.
Unless you're sure that your current clients do a good job at accurately sharing about your offerings, I'll suggest having clear copy and marketing on your social media page, so that people know exactly how to work with you.
The Attention Economy Rewards the Powerful Communicator
In 2025, the average attention span will shrink further as digital noise increases. Research shows storytelling and vocal charisma increase retention by up to 22 times (Stanford, 2024).
People are tired. They are overwhelmed. They are burnt out by the excess of information online. How can you ensure your message reach the right people? Because your work is important, and people out there need you.
As of today, my brand has helped me:
- built my career,
- grow a combined online following of 20,000 people,
- led me to opportunities like guest speaking at global events and hosting my own talk show,
- grow connected communities of people who organise meet ups without me being there,
- make friends from all over the world, making life exciting and even more fulfilling.
Imagine what a strong, unforgettable, and timeless brand can do for your business, your career, and in fulfilling your vision for your life?
⚡ How will it increase the quality of the clients you attract?
⚡ How will it bring you the opportunities and collaborations you want?
⚡ How will it lead you into rooms that grow you?
And more...
