Hi ,

Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful festive break and that you are feeling refreshed for the year ahead.

We’ve got a mega batch of new careers resources for you to start the year and make that return to work a little bit easier!

Here are this month's additions to the Panjango Resource Bank…

🏆 Job of the Week

Our new Job of the Week resource features a varied selection of 52 job roles allowing you to explore one a week during tutor time or in your careers lessons.

Simply click on the numbered weeks on the selector screen to be taken to the different jobs where you’ll find bite-sized careers and labour market information, along with two contextual challenges to bring those roles to life.

The challenges allow your students to experience some 'real world' challenges faced in those jobs - with one challenge based on core curriculum knowledge and the second skills-based to put student's transferable skills to the test.

You could start your Job of the Week to coincide with the new year, or plan it in to start in the new academic year in September.

You can find the Job of the Week resource along with more than 70 individual careers resources, in the Careers (Current Jobs) folder here.

🏄 Cool Jobs on the Ocean

Joining our 'Cool Jobs' series this month is ‘Cool Jobs on the Ocean’ - exploring another working environment that offers many career opportunities to your students who may love the outdoors or be interested in working in part of the biggest biome on Earth!

This resource explores 18 exciting jobs that primarily work on or around the ocean - and a further three as part of the bonus 'Perfect Storm Challenge’ - all through our usual brand of contextual challenges.

Using the interactive challenge selector, students can explore the valuable work of a Marine Archaeologist, consider the benefits of aquaculture as a Fish Farmer, or think about the importance of protecting the oceans as a Marine Biologist, and many more.

This resource is perfect for form tutors to do a challenge or two a day with students - or to use as a complete resource during World Ocean Day on 8th June.

You can find this resource, along with 5 other Cools Jobs resources and 14 standard sector exploration resources, in the Sectors folder here.

🎱 Careers Bingo

Who doesn’t love a game of bingo?! In our careers version, your students are given a careers clue that they must then match to the relevant careers image on their bingo grid.

If they think they know which career, for example, uses secateurs or which might know about asymmetric hems then they cross it off in their grid and they’re on their way to getting a line and becoming the class Careers Bingo champion!

We’ve included 8 different grids and both ‘easy’ and ‘hard’ instructions to allow this to be used across abilities.

You can find this and a wide range of creative careers-themed activities and worksheets in the Activities folder here.

🧮 KS2 Maths

We've now completed our set of KS2 Maths resources to connect careers and the curriculum by providing contextualised challenges relating to each topic of KS2 Maths.

The three new resources include Algebra, Ratio and Proportion, and Statistics.

These resources are ideal to pass on to the Maths teachers in your school, or in your feeder primary schools, to help them bring the Maths curriculum to life and connect careers and the curriculum (and meet Gatsby Benchmark 4).

You can find our full set of 31 KS2 curriculum topic resources across Maths, English and Science in the Subjects (KS2) folder here.

🖋️ Burns Night Poetry Challenge

Burns Night marks the anniversary of the Scottish poet, Robert Burns' birth on the 25th of January 1759. A traditional Burns supper is served with haggis to celebrate his life and work which has influenced thinkers across the world!

So we’ve added a careers-themed poetry challenge to encourage your learners to come up with an acrostic poem for a career of their choice to get them thinking about the tasks, workplaces and skills that might be associated with that career.

This is a quick activity designed for tutor time that could easily be turned into a competition or display.

You can download the Burn's Night worksheet activity sheet here, and you can find 25 other resources relating to events in the calendar in the Events folder here.

🌐 Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day takes place in February of each year to raise awareness of a safer and better internet for all, and especially for children and young people.

This year, Safer Internet Day falls on 6th February and we've created a quick careers-themed worksheet activity to get students thinking about where they may encounter risks online and how they can keep themselves and their friends safe.

The worksheet should be helpful in stimulating a wider classroom discussion about internet safety and raising questions from students about how they stay safe online.

You can download our Safer Internet Day worksheet here.

📰 The Panjango Post

The Panjango Post is also back with its monthly update giving a careers twist on some of the latest news stories.

This month we've covered the start of Veganuary and a record-breaking New Year's Eve firework display!

Each story features a short synopsis followed by a contextualised challenge to see how students would respond when placed at the heart of that story.

📅 Events Calendar

As we've continued to add new resources that relate to specific events in the calendar, we now updated our Events Calendar graphic to help you see the 25 resources you have available to use at different times throughout the year:

We'll make sure we have something to fill that gap in May by the time the month comes around!

🔦 In The Spotlight

Finally, as usual, we'd like to spotlight the other resources that are particularly relevant at this time of year including:

Blue Monday (Mon 15th Jan)

The third Monday in January is officially the most depressing day of the year! So our resource for Blue Monday helps students understand why people can feel particularly 'blue' at this time of year and then gets them to think of simple things they can do to improve their physical, mental and social well-being. Note: there is a main powerpoint and an accompanying worksheet activity.

Valentine's Day (Wed 14th Feb)

Love is (nearly) in the air! It's almost that time of year again when students get giddy about sending and receiving Valentine's cards. Our careers-themed Valentine's resource taps into that excitement, getting students to complete challenges relating to the work done in various careers as part of the V-Day celebrations!

As always, you can find our whole collection of more than 350 different careers games and resources in the Panjango Resource Bank folder here.

Let us know if you have any feedback on the resource we have created, or if there is something in particular you'd like us to focus our attention on this year.
