Is Transformation Possible?
Jan 24, 2021 1:41 am
I took a walk with an old friend recently. We were talking about some of the difficulties we'd each overcome in our lives, and the struggles we still faced in our personal relationships. Sitting on a bench, looking out over the Redwood park, she turned and asked me, “Do you think real transformation is possible?”
As a meditation teacher, I was surprised to find myself taking a very long pause. “Yes,” I said. “But it’s hard work.”
It’s one thing to feel inspired, to sense the possibility of realizing our potential and creating a society of dignity and equity for all. It’s something else to show up time and time again for the hard work, the repeated experiences of failure and struggle that are part of any truly transformative journey.
In my own efforts towards personal and collective liberation, I have found the training of Nonviolent Communication combined with the practice of mindfulness to be essential. These tools have helped me (and countless others), to discern my purpose, find my voice, create stronger relationships and feel empowered to advocate for the world I know is possible.
That’s why I’m inviting you to join me for a special, six-week online course, Cultivating Authentic Communication.
The course is designed to support you to discern what’s most authentic and to develop the skill to express yourself openly in ways others can hear. You’ll learn ways to:
- Feel more confident during conversations
- Develop skills to say what really matters in any interaction
- Ask for what you want in a way that invites collaboration
- Say no and set limits while still expressing your care for others
The class starts next Sunday, January 31 from 9 – 10:30am PT. All sessions are live, and recorded for viewing afterwards. There are discounts if you register with a friend or a small group, and CEs for mental health providers, nurses, teachers, and other professionals.
I hope you can join me.
Warmly,
Oren
