Hello My Friend.
Feb 20, 2024 1:01 pm
This month, I did a hard reset. A hard reset is when you sit and look at your life, what has worked, what has failed miserably, and what lessons have taught you the most. I will be very honest with you in saying that this profession, is tough. Not only am I splaying myself wide on an open forum asking for your acceptance, but in a way, I am also asking for your approval and love. There are times the universe responds loudly and yells into the void “you suck!” At times, I can shake it off, reminding myself that not everyone is going to love what I write.
I can shake it off and tell myself that not everyone is going to get the subtleties and nuances, which on the surface, may appear rudimentary, but a deeper read of the same sentence is all telling.
I always place at the beginning of my books, “easy reading, is damned hard writing.” It is one of my favorite quotes from Nathaniel Hawthorne.
However, I am changing my quote this year to one from Pablo Picasso.
“The world doesn't make sense, so why should I paint pictures that do?”
I had to make it all make sense, therefore, this February, I took a cruise. No, I was not booked on it to teach writing courses. I took a cruise with my spouse to simply enjoy life. It was a fancy cruise that had no kids, well I saw 4 from a young couple who probably wished they were on a Disney Cruise instead.
However, I rested.
Stop. Let me rephrase that.
We went on ATV’s in the Mexican jungle on rough terrain. It beat my butt. I got dehydrated, you know the kind with chills. The next day I spent in bed and asked Hubby to come turn me over; frequently. He fed and watered me and the next day, I was back on my feet. Now here is the funny thing.
Being unable to run around like an idiot, a character started talking to me. I didn’t bring work material because it was a vacay, but once we got to the next port, trust and believe I paid entirely too much for a small journal that I nearly filled with the information Macalister Fontaine provided. Today, I am on Chapter 4 of his novel and loving the write.
It feels good to write like this again without the angst and worry of whether or not it will be loved or liked, or well-received. The world doesn’t make sense, but love does. I write love stories of unlikely circumstances that bring people together, who fall in love and make a life. It’s what I do.
It’s what I love.
If you’ve never experienced that sort of love, yeah, what I write will not resonate with you. I accept that. It doesn’t mean that I suck, or I’m a bad person who is out of touch with reality. It means, I simply see the scenes differently and I shall recreate, with words, how I see it playing out. My job is to give you the best-case scenario. We know bad things happen in life to good people, however, when you sit down to read, let’s allow those instances to go away. When you open my book, I want to take you on an adventure into love, where the best possible ending can happen.
I will take you step by step and show you.
Today is the big day. Come to Missouri, and I shall show you how love feels.

Yes, you have a pack of Ramen. Don't use the contents in it to make the noodles, instead, grab the soy sauce, leftover chicken and veggies, add a dash of Siracha, and a drizzle of olive oil with a soft-boiled egg, now you have a meal.
Night Blind
In the chilly dawn of a new life, Shenita finds herself navigating unfamiliar territory. As she grapples with anger and disillusionment, unexpected footsteps herald the arrival of Gabriel Neary, a figure both enigmatic and unsettlingly familiar. Offering coffee and cryptic conversation, Gabriel presents Shenita with a choice: succumb to her rage or channel it into a purposeful path.
Drawn into a world of clandestine mentorship and hidden agendas, Shenita—now rechristened Helen—faces a journey fraught with uncertainty. With Mr. Slow as her guide, she embarks on a quest for redemption, teetering on the edge between salvation and damnation.
As the morning sun illuminates their clandestine pact, Helen grapples with the weight of her decisions. Trusting Gabriel means surrendering to a fate beyond her control, yet the promise of purpose beckons amidst the shadows of her past.
In a tale of redemption and reckoning, "Night Blind" explores the fragile balance between light and darkness, trust and betrayal. As Helen delves deeper into the world of The Technicians, she must confront the demons that lurk within her soul—and decide whether to embrace the monster within or banish it forever.
