Hello from Lisbon!
This email will be brief. Partly because its message is simple: go get my novella on KDP for free sometime in the next five days before it goes back to [shock] 99 cents. Also: because I'm on holiday and time with my family takes precedence.
From today, Friday 23 October, Eternal Child is free on Kindle. The promotion runs for five days and ends on Tuesday 27 October.
I have loved so many, and yet none of them knew me.
Suzie found the book as a child, in a cardboard box at a garage sale. Bound in blue leather, it never runs out of stories, first fairy tales and later romance, and as she grows into a young woman, every page seems written just for her.
It is.
The book feeds on her emotions, and it is content to let her remain unaware of its growing influence over her. But the more it feeds, the more it grows. And the more it grows, the more sustenance it needs.
Soon, it will need more from Suzie than it has ever taken before.
I first wrote this story in 2017, and it was really tricky. The hard part was the narrator, who has a very particular voice. The book tells the whole story, and it never once believes it's the villain. It calls what it does love. Getting you to see things from the perspective of such a creature, at least for a while, was the whole point.
Some of you may have come across an earlier edition on Amazon years ago. The story hasn't changed, but I've been through it line by line this year, so if you did read it back then, it's a cleaner read than the one you remember.
If you've read Past Mistakes, this is a different animal. It's quieter and darker, and it's short enough to finish in an evening. It's meant to be unsettling.
My usual request: if the book stays with you, please consider writing a review on Amazon. It makes a difference.
Thanks for reading, as always.
Nick
