Hello from Luxembourg,
For the last two weeks I've been working on a bunch of projects, keeping my daily (average) word count up, and polishing an old manuscript that I want to republish.
Eternal Child was an exercise in a fairly nasty form of horror. I wanted to write something unsettling that would make readers feel uncomfortable, but without any violence or gore. I wanted it to be almost entirely in the emotional register, rather than in physical acts.
To do this, I made my narrator, the main character, non-human. The entire story is told from the point of view of a book that is largely inert. But the book isn't benign, and through the content of its pages it manipulates its owner into acts that nourish the book itself, because it feeds on emotion.
I will publish it at the same time as I send the next newsletter, on Thursday 22nd October, and it will be free for five days from then.
