Twenty-five years ago as a Christian parent, I was always on the lookout for books written by Christians for my four kids to read. In those days, Christian bookstores were doing fine, and I found various series there. 

I began homeschooling when my oldest was in eighth grade. I had no idea what I was doing, but I jumped right in. Who wouldn't, when their kid asks to homeschool? There was plenty of good literature available for her at that time, nearly 20 years ago.

Since then, things have changed. Political ideas have crept into children's books, especially books from the trade publishers that make their way into libraries and schools. I know that you homeschooling parents are careful about what your kids read. But it's a tall order to pre-read everything!

What today's Christian parents need is someone who does the pre-reading for them. Someone who's a Christian and has also homeschooled would be ideal. And how about identifying books that have (free!) study guides? I loved study guides when I was homeschooling. They allowed the child to work independently.

As the New Classics Study Guides founder, I volunteered for this pre-reader job. I've read a lot of promising books and identified some that have strong, interesting fiction, a Christian worldview, and a (free!) study guide. What is better for a homeschooling parent than a study guide written by the book's author?
